Émile Barthe, né en 1874 à Nissan, dans la plaine viticole entre Béziers et Narbonne, est un des auteurs les plus féconds de sa génération. Nous verrons, en présentant l’évolution de son œuvre, comment sa position dans le Félibrige relayée par sa puissance créatrice, a pu le placer au centre d’une réussite théâtrale exceptionnelle par sa durée, son extension géographique et sa popularité. Drama enjoyed then a remarkable vitality in all the places with a carnival tradition sharing a common culture, linguistic as well as theatrical habits and therefore faithful audiences.
